Food Network Star Amy Thielen
UNI will hold its second annual Harvest Festival on September 4th from 3-5pm at the Panther Plot as well as an evening keynote address in the Maucker Union. This year's expanded event will include food featuring fresh ingredients from the student garden, as well as a special visit from Amy Thielen from the Food Network. Amy is the hostess of the Heartland Table on the Food Network and a James Beard award winning chef. Amy will do a cooking demonstration at the UNI student garden during their Harvest Festival from 3-4pm. This will be followed by her keynote presentation at UNI's Maucker Union from 7-8:30pm.
Amy grew up near the headwaters of the Mississippi River in Minnesota and graduated from Macalester College. She spent 7 years cooking professionally in New York under. She returned to the Midwest in 2008 and has since published a cookbook, The New Midwestern Table, a collection of 200 Midwestern recipes and stars in the Food Network show, Heartland Table.
The Harvest Festival will highlight the outstanding work of students related to local food and a host of other sustainability efforts on campus. Both events are free and open to the public. To learn more about Amy visit her blog here.
