Panther Pick Up 2012 results

Everything, from coats to mattresses, finds new homes through UNI's Panther Pick Up event, held during Final's Week every May. This May, more than 24,000 pounds (12 tons) of materials were reused or recycled.

The story extends beyond reuse and recycling, however, because most of the contributions were given away to Cedar Valley citizens in need and/or sold in one of our partners' retail stores. As Pat Russo, director of the Cedar Valley St. Vincent de Paul says, a donation of five coats doesn't weigh much, but can have a big impact on five Cedar Valley residents.

All Panther Pick Up donations received by Goodwill Industries, the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul help them further their mission of service to others.

Quick Panther Pick Up Facts

  • 100 students participated
  • 300 clothing items found new homes at a UNI Clothing Swap
  • 4.2 tons of metal were recycled
  • 7.6 tons of goods, from shoes to carpeting, found new homes
