Automotive Workshop Tech Update (A=Auto)
Tom Richardson, Vice-President, Today’s Class
Today’s Class automotive training program is designed for secondary and post-secondary CTE programs. The program can be delivered through lecture format by instructors or through self-paced individualized web-based access by students. Modules can be used to augment current course curriculum. The program includes third-party end-of-program assessments that meet Perkins requirements. Instructors can also use this program resource to qualify for their own instructor update training required by NATEF. The automotive course work is developed to train entry-level technicians in a variety of automotive basics, as well as keep seasoned technicians current on the industry’s constantly evolving technology. The courses employ animation, narration and interactive “drag and drop” features to create an engaging, self-paced classroom
resource. The instructor’s ability to track students’ progress and provide one-on-one support allows for increased communication. The Learning Management System’s unique reporting features provide instant feedback to the student and reduced grading and lecture time for the instructor. Note: This workshop will be delivered in a computer lab, so you’ll gain experience using the program. You must be a current automotive instructor in a secondary or post-secondary program
to sign up for this workshop.
Welding Tech Update - Virtual Reality Arc Welding (W=Welding)
Shawn Vincel (Lincoln Electric District Manager) and Bob Arendt (KCCA-IHCC Welding)
This workshop will include a demonstration of the operation and an explanation of the features of the Lincoln VRTEX 360 Virtual Reality Arc Welding training system. The VRTEX 360 incorporates realistic puddle simulation and arc welding sound tied to a welder’s movement that provides a realistic hands-on weld experience. This presentation will include information on the advantages of integration of high tech welding training–faster and less expensive welding training improves the
image of welding and turns a welding program green. Participants will get to practice welding in a virtual, simulated environment. Experiences of integrating the VRTEX 360 at the Keokuk County Career Academy will also be included.
Zero to Hero - Design a live website in one class! (G-Graphic Design/Website)
Steve Bendy, Professor at DMACC
Go from zero to hero as you design a fully functional website in just one class. Using open source (that’s free!) WordPress
software your instructor will guide you through the process of creating a site that you can use to blog, add photos and videos, create slideshows and more. Not artistically inclined? No worries, your instructor will show you how to choose from hundreds of gorgeous free templates AND if so inclined, show you how to customize them with Fireworks or Photoshop. Nervous? Technically challenged? Don’t worry, this hands-on class is taught by a very patient instructor who has a knack for showing others how to use complex technology in a way you can understand. Just come with an idea of
what you want to do, some photos on a flash drive and everything else will be provided.
Grow Greener Construction Students! (C-Construction)
Lynnae Hentzen, Jacob Kvinlaug, and Bill McAnally, executive director and consultants for Center on
Sustainably Communities.
Sustainable Design and Construction is seeded throughout the new Iowa statewide construction Standards and Benchmarks (S&B). Learn what has been planted in the S&B (the curriculum components), how to water and fertilize (locate resources and develop curriculum modules), and harvest (develop and use assessments) your crop of greener construction students. You’ll learn about important sustainable design and construction principles that you will want to teach your students. Bring your curriculum because you’ll work in groups with your peers to develop curriculum modules
and assessments that support the new construction standards and benchmarks. At the completion of this workshop, all developed materials will be shared, so you’ll end up with valuable teaching and learning resources that will help you grow greener construction students in your program! Note: Bring your curriculum, a laptop, and a flash drive to this workshop.
