Meeting the challenges, reaping the rewards
English language learners bring both benefits and challenges to the classroom. The mission of the Our Kids seminars is to improve ELL student achievement and program effectiveness in Iowa's schools. Participants will be guided through the legal requirements, performance expectations, and teaching strategies for these new members of our school communities.

Who attends?
District and building administrators, IHE teacher educators and teacher candidates, community college instructors, K-12 educators, consultants, and staff all will find information useful to their roles.

Seminar features
Designed with team-based learning in mind, the Our Kids seminars feature nationally recognized speakers, ELL teaching strategies in the content areas, and experiential training in cultural understanding. Participants will return to their schools with a wealth of ideas and resources to use in the classroom and to share with colleagues. One hour of graduate credit will be available.

Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Spaces are limited.

Sponsored by the Iowa Department of Education. Activities funded in part by a fgederal Teacher Quality Enhancement Grant. The contents of this flyer were developed under a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
