Roles & Responsibilities

Mission of the Safety Committee

The mission of the University Health and Safety Committee is to foster a safe environment for all campus constituencies and visitors. The primary responsibility of the committee is to address health and safety issues in university programs, activities and facilities. The committee is advisory to the University Safety Officer, Dean Shoars.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Review of regulatory standards
  • Recommend changes to policies and procedures
  • Work with the University Safety Officer to assure compliance with occupational health and safety measures

The committee shall also consider educational programs such as workshops and special training sessions that will help develop awareness and understanding of sound health and safety practices and promote safe and healthy lifestyles.

The University Safety Manager serves as the committee chair. Meetings are held monthly on the second Thursday of each month at 3:30 in Maucker Union. Copies of the minutes and agenda are sent to each member. A copy of the current minutes and agenda are posted at UNI Health & Safety.
