The pedestrian path from the Commons cul-de-sac through the Bartlet/Commons arch at the 23rd Street Market was re-opened earlier this week. That closure was due to work on Bartlett Hall. The Bartlett work is complete.
Last week a portion of a retaining wall on the north east corner of the Commons Dinning Center collapsed. The contractor at Bartlett was hired to install temporary safety barricades around the hole created by this structural failure. The same contractor will be hired to repair the damage and restore the area.
For safety reasons, the structure at Commons must be repaired as soon as possible. The repairs will take three weeks or more. The sidewalk in that area will need to be removed. It will be impossible to maintain any pedestrian through-traffic at the north east corner of Commons while they make these repairs.
The pedestrian walk way between Bartlett and the entrance to the 23rd street Market will be closed starting Monday, April 15, 2013. Fences and signs will be placed at the cul-de-sac. The west HC ramp and sidewalk will have to be used until the east path is safe to open.
The entrance to the 23rd street market and the doors to the stairs on the east side of Commons WILL NOT BE BLOCKED. Access to the 23rd St, Market will be from the east. You will be able to enter or leave Commons at any door while the Contractor is working. No one will be able to walk from the circle drive to the center of campus by going through the arch between Bartlett and Commons; IT IS CLOSED. The path through the arch will re-open after the work is done and the sidewalk is replaced.
We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause.
