Changes to the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA) took effect earlier this year. These changes are in addition to those made effective in January 2009 with the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA). Changes made effective March 15, 2011 are in clarification of current practices, including Sale of Tickets for accessible seating, definition of Service Animals, Wheelchairs/Power-driven mobility devices use specification, and effective communication including allowing the use of video remote interpreting services. Changes for the adoption of ADA Standards for Accessible Design and the Architectural Barriers Act will become effective for public entities, such as UNI, on March 15, 2012.
Compliance to these changes is mandated by law. Please forward this to those in your respective colleges and departments who have responsibility for making necessary changes or who may need to be aware.
