UNI Early Retirement Incentive Program

Initial Request of Information Form

Description of Program
The Early Retirement Incentive Program (ERIP) is a one-time program in which employees have a defined window period for application. This program will provide approved applicants paid health insurance, dental insurance and TIAA CREF benefits for up to five years after their retirement date. The program is voluntary. Each application will be reviewed on an individual basis and will be subject to the approval of the appropriate supervisor, department head, and division head. The request to participate in the program may not be approved if it is deemed not in the best interest of the University of Northern Iowa. Those who are accepted into the program shall start their voluntary retirement effective on the date cited by the applicant on the agreement form.

Requirements of Program
To be eligible for the program you must be:
  • A non-temporary employee.
  • Work half time (.5) or more.
  • Appointment length of nine (9) months or longer.
  • Fifty-seven (57) years of age or older and your age and years of service must equal 70 or more on or before your retirement date. To determine your appointment status and last hire date, please click here.
Explanation of the Process
If you are interested in learning more about ERIP, please complete this form and choose an informational session to attend. Once HRS receives this form, they will determine if you are eligible. If you are eligible, you will receive a letter along with personalized retirement options, an Agreement Form, a link to Frequently Asked Questions, a link to the application process, and meeting confirmation. If you are not eligible, you will receive a letter indicating the reason you were not eligible and be provided with a form on how to dispute eligibility.

The deadline for completed and signed Agreement Forms should be received by Human Resource Services no later than July 31, 2009. No forms will be accepted after July 31, 2009. The decision to request this benefit is voluntary. If you elect to participate, you will be provided seven (7) calendar days from the date of approval to revoke your election. You must retire between June 1-December 31, 2009. Re-employment into a UNI benefits-eligible position during the participation period is not permitted. Such employment may be permitted after the participation period concludes.
