Faculty and Staff Disability Services (FSDS) - BACKGROUND

During the Fall semester of 2004, the President’s Cabinet created the Coordinating Committee for Disability Accommodations (CCDA) for the purpose of examining and addressing issues related to access and services to students, faculty, and staff with disabilities. In a self-study of services to faculty, staff and students completed by the CCDA in August 2006, university strengths and weaknesses were identified along with a list of recommendations for improvement.

Late in 2006, to address some of the CCDA recommendations, Eunice Dell, Assistant Vice President for Administration and Finance, began working to coordinate disability issues for faculty and staff. Prior to this, the Office of Disability Services (ODS) provided assistance to faculty and staff, when requested. This office is now dedicated to serving students and has been re-named Student Disability Services (SDS). For more information, contact Jill Smith, Student Disability Services Coordinator, jill.smith@uni.edu or visit their web site at http://www.uni.edu/disability/faq.shtml
