Merit System
The Merit System includes both contract and noncontract employees. Contract employees are Blue Collar, Clerical, Security, and Technical employees. Noncontract employees are Supervisory (clerical and nonclerical) and Confidential (clerical) employees.

Merit positions open to current Merit Employees for promotion and transfer. UNI Merit Employees are encouraged to apply. Positions may be posted simultaneously to outside applicants.

Professional & Scientific (P&S) staff
assist in the formation and administration of policy and aid in
the execution of academic, student and administrative services as
required for University operations.

Smokefree Campus
Effective July 1, 2008 the Iowa Smokefree Air Act prohibits smoking anywhere on the entire UNI campus, including University owned or leased vehicles and vehicles parked in University parking lots. The new law imposes penalties for noncompliance on both the smoker and the institution in the event of a violation.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, information on crime statistics for recent years, Public Safety personnel and programs, building access, reporting crimes, safety suggestions, and policies, programs, and services regarding alcohol drugs, and sexual abuse, is available at www.vpaf.uni.edu/pubsaf/crime_stats/ .
