  POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

 

POSITION TITLE: Associate Director            

 

DEPARTMENT: Career Services

  

APPOINTMENT TYPE: 12 Month, Probationary, Pay Grade V     

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Advises students and alumni regarding career decision making, job search strategies, cooperative education and internships and further professional preparation; develops and presents workshops and presentations; supervises assigned Career Services staff; manages staff work flow and coordination of programming; conducts employer development activities; and provides oversight of career related resources.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.   Advises students and alumni regarding career decision making, job search strategies, cooperative education and internships and further professional preparation; reviews and evaluates resumes and job search correspondence, portfolios, as well as graduate school applications; offers advice and counsel on job search strategies and tools, accessing print and electronic resources, and making effective career changes; conducts mock interviews; develops and presents workshops and presentations for multiple audiences and makes referrals to other campus resources where appropriate.

 2.   Supervises assigned Career Services staff to include the Career Services Coordinator, Information Management Specialist, Employer Relations Coordinator, Events Coordinator and Professional Career Advisors; conducts performance reviews and identifies annual goals and objectives with staff; manages staff work flow and coordination of programming; assesses program performance levels; and provides activity and performance reports to the Career Services Director.

 3.   Conducts employer development activities through on-site visits, correspondence, and interaction at university and community sponsored events; establishes and maintains employer activity reports; participates and develops sponsorship and fundraising opportunities.

 4.   Coordinates annual graduate follow-up activities; reports statistical data in comprehensive annual reports; manages annual graduate follow-up survey processes; and coordinates the collection of data for all majors.

 5.   Provides oversight of career related resources to include electronic and print media, journals, student handouts, faculty resources, employer resources and multi-media applications. 

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Student Services, Education, Counseling, Business, or related field plus at least three years of experience in post secondary education, career services or a related field required. Five years of experience with advising, administration, instruction, fund raising, program development, public speaking, knowledge of business and industry opportunities, experience with career interest inventories, and the collection and use of assessment instruments and statistical data is preferred.
