POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION TITLE: Assistant Marketing Specialist
DEPARTMENT: University Marketing & Public Relations (UM&PR)
APPOINTMENT TYPE: 12 Month, Probationary, Pay Grade III
PRIMARY FUNCTION : Supports the planning and development of marketing programs for various campus units, including Admissions, academic colleges, departments, and administrative offices; generates creative concepts, writes and/or edits, and manages the design process and final production; assists with communication media such as publications, print advertising, Web-based projects, radio and television; and serves as liaison between UM&PR and campus units or committees
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides marketing and public relations support to assigned account teams; assists with general advertising campaigns, development of overall strategies, targets, and methods for advertising; writes, develops and places appropriate print, display or broadcast media; acts as liaison with various campus units; assists in the production of other communication media which may include writing or editing, generating creative concepts, and negotiating with clients to maintain high quality design standards while following established University policy; reviews design, text, photographs and production with clients to ensure accuracy, consistency, and client concurrence and approval of all facets of the project; maintains database records of jobs; conducts interviews, assigns and schedules photo shoots; and ensures adherence to bidding, thematic and other best practices as developed by UM&PR.
2. Provides University event support; serves as liaison to University events to ensure an integrated approach; and works on specific event committees, as well as the overall approach to teaching and encouraging best practices necessary to make events a collaborative success.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations or related field plus at least one year of marketing or public relations experience required. Student experience will be considered.
