POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION TITLE: Student Health Clinic Physician
DEPARTMENT: University Health Services
APPOINTMENT TYPE: 10 Month, Probationary, Pay GradeVIII
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provides primary care to a diverse student population, including diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries as well as office treatments and procedures. Provides patient education; supervises mid-level providers; and collaborates with appropriate staff on the development and improvement of programs, protocols, policies, and procedures.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides primary care to students, including diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries; obtains and records health history; performs physicals and assesses developmental, psychosocial, and routine health maintenance status; coordinates care of chronic illnesses; orders appropriate diagnostic and screening laboratory tests; prescribes appropriate medications and treatments and performs procedures within the scope of licensure; supervises mid-level providers and collaborates their treatment of illnesses and trauma; assesses patient needs and makes referrals as necessary; provides patient education with emphasis on health promotion, risk reduction, health maintenance and preventive care (topics include but are not limited to contraceptive methods, sexually transmitted diseases, illnesses, injuries, breast and testicular self exam, fitness, nutrition and eating disorders); and promotes health and prevents illness by utilizing appropriate educational material and making referrals to other resources as necessary.
2. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other University staff in the development and implementation of specialized treatment, prevention, and continuous quality improvement programs; assists in development of protocols, educational materials, policies and procedures, and standards of care; functions as a resource person to University staff; provides in-service education; participates in departmental staff meetings and University meetings as requested; and assists in continuous quality process through chart audits and solving practice-related problems.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Board certified/board eligible physician with a current Iowa license required. Supervisory capacity for physician assistants as well as current DEA and Iowa Controlled Substance certificate also required. Interest and knowledge of college health issues is preferred. Experience in electronic medical record documentation is also preferred.
