POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION TITLE: Cashier Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Office of Business Operations
APPOINTMENT TYPE: 12 Month, Probationary, Pay Grade III
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Oversees processing of daily transactions; establishes and maintains cashiering/cash handling policies and procedures; provides staff supervision and direction as necessary; hires and trains student and temporary employees in cashiering functions; reviews and responds to unusual cashiering requests; maintains awareness of current banking practices; ensures compliance with regulations and timely recording of electronic receipts; assists with resolving issues with bank reconciliation as necessary; and actively participates with university committees/groups as needed. .
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversees processing of daily transactions including deposits and balancing; reviews and responds to unusual cashiering requests; maintains awareness of current banking practices and evaluates for applicability to university operations and recommends and implements enhancements when appropriate; establishes and maintains cashiering/cash handling policies and procedures and communicates with university employees who accept funds on campus and maintain related information on Business Operations web site; and serves as university liaison with financial institutions for depository and electronic commerce.
2. Maintains the integrity of university financial systems by ensuring the use of the appropriate account codes for payment/deposit entries; ensures compliance with regulations governing electronic commerce and credit card data security and timely recording of electronic receipts; and assists with resolving issues with bank reconciliation as necessary.
3. Provides staff supervision and direction as necessary; hires and trains student and temporary employees in cashiering functions; coaches employees on customer service university procedures, and best practices; ensures appropriate staffing levels to meet service needs.
4. Actively participates with university committees/groups as needed; works with Purchasing/Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Fixed Asset staff to facilitate best practices with fund receipts and disbursements and evaluates opportunities for savings and improvements; works with university departments to ensure best practices for point of sale transactions; and completes other projects as assigned.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in business or a related major with a minimum of three years experience cashiering, financial work, or banking required. Supervisory experience, strong communication skills, and proficiency with desktop software applications also required. A minimum of one year experience with automated financial systems is preferred.
