POSITION TITLE:Undergraduate Recruitment & Academic Services Coordinator

DEPARTMENT:Industrial Technology

APPOINTMENT TYPE: 12 Month, Probationary, Pay Grade III 

PRIMARY FUNCTION : Develops and implements strategies to generate interest in majors offered through Department of Industrial Technology; recruits students; initiates contact with industries seeking the opportunities for co-ops, internships, and scholarships; advises students on program offerings and registration processes; assists in securing new funding opportunities and coordinates tracking of scholarships; and coordinates all recruitment activities within the department. 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develops and implements strategies to generate interest in majors offered through Department of Industrial Technology; generates ideas for strategies and refines them in cooperation with department head, faculty, and staff; researches and recommends appropriate media to carry departmental message; facilitates design and printing of promotional materials; and researches and recommends other methods of promotion.

2. Recruits students to major in Department of Industrial Technology programs; travels as a departmental representative throughout Iowa and surrounding areas; communicates with students, parents, industry, secondary schools and community college representatives; conducts group presentations and/or meets with individual students; disseminates materials on industrial technology programs and opportunities; coordinates on-campus visits for prospective students; answers or refers student inquiries; and arranges for follow-up contact by appropriate faculty or staff.

3. Initiates contact with industries seeking the opportunities for co-ops, internships, and scholarships; and interacts and coordinates with companies and the UNI Career Center to set up on-campus interviews for students by publicizing job opportunities and directing students to take the appropriate steps for on-campus interviews. 

4. Advises students majoring in Industrial Technology; coordinates new major, freshmen and transfer student orientation registration; reviews transcripts for the department; advises new students during orientation and serves as temporary advisor until a faculty advisor is assigned; creates degree audits and calculates number of semester hours toward graduation when needed; and attends academic advising meetings for input.

5. Confers with students concerning registration procedures, course selection and class schedules; informs students of course prerequisites and progress toward degree; coordinates waiting lists and closed class lists for industrial technology students; and assists with scheduling issues.

6. Assists in securing funding opportunities and coordinates tracking of scholarships; creates scholarship booklets and updates scholarship directory as needed; coordinates meetings for scholarship committee; initiates necessary paperwork for Registrar, Foundation and Financial Aid offices and budgets scholarship accounts and distributions; and prepares reports, surveys, and studies as needed.

7. Coordinates Industrial Technology Days and other recruitment events designed to familiarize prospective students with educational programs offered by the department; arranges for facilities, displays and other activities; provides informational materials concerning academic programs; meets with prospective students and parents; and completes follow-up contacts and referrals as interest in department is indicated. 

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Education, or related field required.  Two years of experience in an academic setting preferred.  Candidates must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.  Student experience will be considered.
