POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION TITLE: Marketing Specialist
DEPARTMENT: University Marketing & Public Relations (UM&PR)
APPOINTMENT TYPE: 12 Month, Probationary, Pay Grade III
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Leads Admissions marketing and general advertising campaign development and coordination; coordinates publication and web-based content management system as it relates to profiles of students, alumni, faculty, staff, employers and donors; provides university event support; supports UM&PR publications; oversees the planning and development of marketing programs for various campus units, including but not limited to Admissions, colleges, departments and administrative offices; provides communication plan development, creative concept writing and/or editing; manages the design process and final production; and assists with communication media such as publications, print advertising, web-based projects, radio and television.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leads assigned account teams; develops and coordinates general advertising campaigns for assigned accounts; provides leadership in development of overall strategies, targets and methods for advertising; writes, develops, and places appropriate print, display and broadcast approaches; coordinates placement of ads, including liaison work with various campus units, including but not limited to Admissions, colleges, etc. and the UM&PR design staff; produces projects and coordinates other communication media, including writing and/or editing, generating creative concepts, and negotiating with clients to maintain high quality design standards and follows established University policy; reviews design, text, photographs and production with clients to ensure accuracy, consistency, and client concurrence and approval of all facets of the project; maintains database records of each job; conducts interviews; assigns and schedules photo shoots; and ensures adherence to bidding, thematic and other best practices procedures as developed by UM&PR.
2. Provides University event support; serves as liaison to University events to ensure an integrated approach; works on specific event committees, and provides overall approach to teaching and encouraging best practices necessary to make these kinds of efforts a collaborative success.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, or related field plus at least three years of marketing or public relations experience required. Experience in higher education preferred.
