  POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

POSITION TITLE: Math Coordinator               

 

DEPARTMENT: Academic Learning Center

 

APPOINTMENT TYPE: 11 Month, Probationary, Pay Grade IV       

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of the Director, coordinates mathematics assistance service, including math assessment, tutoring, and structured academic assistance; teaches classes, tutorials, and workshops; selects, trains, and supervises student assistants; develops curricula; selects and develops instructional materials and methods; assesses students' strengths and weaknesses; counsels students; and consults and collaborates with faculty/staff on matters related to math assistance.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.   Provides mathematics learning assistance to students; conducts classes, tutorials, special short courses and workshops; prescribes and/or develops instructional materials and services to meet client's needs; and makes presentations.

 

2.   Meets and confers with students seeking assistance with their math skills; administers and interprets standardized test or assessment results; develops or adopts, administers and interprets the results of diagnostic measures; and advises clients about appropriate services.

 

3.   Recruits, trains and supervises part-time student assistants; selects, develops and assigns training materials; provides direct instruction on teaching/tutoring techniques and content; serves as a role model for teaching and tutoring; serves as a professional resource for assistants; reviews assistants' work with clients; observes assistants' teaching and tutoring and provides specific guidance for improvement; and conducts regularly scheduled meetings with assistants.

 

4.   Develops curricula to provide math assistance; reviews and adopts instructional materials and methods; writes and adapts instructional materials; and evaluates program effectiveness and makes recommendations for revisions and further development.

 

5.   Consults with University staff and faculty on matters related to math assistance; receives referrals from faculty and provides feedback on client progress; receives referrals from and makes referrals to other campus services (e.g., Counseling Center, Student Support Services, Academic Advising, Disability Services, etc.); and collaborates with the Department of Mathematics to provide services to students.

 

6.   Participates in the establishment and on-going review of departmental goals and objectives; assists in identifying and documenting performance measures for program evaluation; and collects and interprets evaluation data.

  

7.   Develops promotional materials, print and online publications.

 

8.   Assists the Director with other departmental responsibilities, as requested.

 

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in mathematics, developmental education, or related field plus at least three years of experience in high school or college mathematics teaching or developmental education required. Master’s degree preferred. Student experience will be considered. Occasional evening work will be necessary. Position is an academic year plus eight-week summer session work schedule.
