POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION TITLE: Support Services Coordinator/User Consultant
DEPARTMENT: Information Technology Services-User Services (ITS-US)
APPOINTMENT TYPE: 12 Month, Probationary, Pay Grade IV
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provides primary support for seventeen general student computer centers (labs) including servers and workstations; oversees operations and student staffing; provides software consulting and support to centers and to University faculty and staff; interfaces with faculty regarding software needs for curriculum; creates and maintains software documentation; and provides secondary support for faculty and staff servers and workstations.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides primary support for student computer center servers and workstations, using Active Director and Group Policy; provides secondary support for faculty and staff servers and workstations; and develops and maintains workstation configurations and standards.
2. Oversees operations and staffing of ITS Student Computer Centers; supervises and trains student staff; creates and maintains standard policies and procedures for Center operations and utilization; monitors level of service provided; and devises and implements methods to improve service.
3. Provides software consulting and support within the User Services unit of ITS; resolves high level software problems in ITS student computer centers and in University offices; coordinates with internal and external resources as needed to solve and correct problems; and researches and assists with special User Services projects as necessary.
4. Prepares documentation for University supported software; creates and maintains user friendly documentation for end users; publishes self-help and training information in hard copy as well as electronic mediums; creates, edits, and updates existing documentation and provides access to such via the World Wide Web (WWW); and explores the WWW for new documentation sources and ideas.
5. Consults with faculty and college lab managers on software availability and updates within the student computer centers; coordinates with faculty to assure compatibility between discipline specific software and center software and hardware; provides support to center users to ensure utilization of existing resources; and presents information concerning student computer centers at staff, computer liaison, and student committee meetings.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information management, or related field plus at least one year of experience in server administration and computer applications as applied to computer support or related field required. Student experience will be considered. Associate’s degree plus at least four years experience or high school diploma plus at least eight years experience may be substituted. Interpersonal relations, communication, and organizational skills also required. Experience in supervision, computer communications, networking, as well as experience with Active Directory and Group Policy preferred.
