CLASS TITLE: Athletic Facilities Attendant CLASS CODE: 5911
PAY GRADE: 208
GENERAL CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, directs and aids in the maintenance of indoor/outdoor athletic fields, courses, courts and tracks. Operates power equipment necessary to maintain facilities. Provides functional supervision to other grounds department staff members.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains indoor/outdoor tracks, playing fields; drags and rolls as necessary; applies dirt, sand, cinders, sawdust, fertilizer, etc., as required; sods, sprays, seeds, oils and/or water as appropriate; adjusts, repairs, installs, and replaces, etc. to insure proper preparation of facility.
- Prepares indoor/outdoor facilities (i.e. layout, marks boundaries, applies top dressings, sets up ticket booths) for intercollegiate and intramural athletic events; assists at events as required.
- Maintains records in layout and preparation of indoor/outdoor athletic facilities; prepares for events upon receipt of schedule; plans long-range work schedules and determines daily work activities.
- Directs the work of groundskeepers, laborers and/or student assistants.
- Operates power equipment such as mowers, tillers, sprayers, small trucks, Cushman trucksters, fork lifts, self-propelled scrubber sweepers, and small tractors necessary to maintain athletic facilities.

- Maintains, repairs, and inventories equipment (i.e. hurdles, crossbars, markers, tractors, paint machines, seeders, drags).
- Assists in a variety of duties related to proper maintenance of indoor/outdoor athletic facilities (transporting equipment, shoveling, cleaning, etc.)
- Responds to calls for emergency services including snow removal as required.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to operate and care for equipment necessary to maintain athletic facilities.
- Knowledge of proper safety techniques to be used in the operation of maintenance equipment.
- Knowledge of pesticide application, storage, and record keeping as prescribed by state statutes.
- Knowledge of proper field markings and application techniques for varying athletic events.
- Ability to plan and schedule work to meet deadlines.
CLASS SPECIFICATIONS:
- Two years experience as Groundskeeper or equivalent experience attained elsewhere or a combination of at least one year of groundskeeping experience and indoor/outdoor athletic facility maintenance experience to equal two years total or any combination of related experience and education from which comparable knowledge and ability can be acquired which totals two years.
- Must have successfully completed commercial certification tests (30T-Ornamental and Turf) for application of pesticides and be eligible to be certified. May be required to sucessfully complete other commercial certification tests as required.
- Possession of State Driver’s or Chauffeur’s license.
