GENERAL CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, applies knowledge, skills and abilities at the journey level to install, and repair electrical systems and equipment (generally less than 600 V).
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces electrical systems and electrical operated equipment (generally less than 600 V), including but not limited circuit breakers, relays, switches, printed circuit boards, solid state components, wiring, conduit, receptacles, magnetic starters and control systems.
- Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and replaces electrical equipment, including but not limited to electric motors, transformers, generators, lights, fixtures, bulbs, tubes, motor control systems and meters.
- Draws layouts, reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and other drawings.
- Assists in directing the work of apprentices and other workers.
- Performs preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and systems.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques used in the electrical trade.
- Knowledge of the tools and equipment of the electrical trade and skill in their safe use.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret local, state and national electrical codes.
- Ability to interpret instructions, specifications and blueprints.
- Ability to plan and perform work involving the installation, modification, trouble shooting and repair of new and existing electrical systems, controls and related equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
CLASS SPECIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in the trade including apprenticeship.
