RULES PERTAINING TO MERIT EMPLOYEES
The working environment for Merit employees is governed by several sets of rules. All Merit employees are covered by the Regents Merit System Rules established pursuant to Chapter 19A of the Code of Iowa. The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement also covers merit employees, except confidential and supervisory employees. For Merit employees covered by the AFSCME agreement, the agreement takes precedence over any conflicting Regents Merit System Rules. Copies of the AFSCME agreement are given to dues-paying members. For information regarding membership or contract interpretation, call the AFSCME office at
277-8186.Work rules that are University-developed guidelines for basic employment practices also govern merit employees. Violations of University work rules can result in disciplinary actions.
