AFSCME office space update

Susie reported that they are checking into office space in Waterloo, as there is none available on campus or in Cedar Falls. They may need to sign a lease, so need to push this right along. Susie is hoping to extend the time frame two more months. Nick will visit with Morris Mikkelsen, Chair of the Space Advisory Committee, for an update. Tabled until June meeting.

Department of Residence Safety Committee

In Bob Hartman’s absence, tabled until July meeting.

Air Quality in Rod Library

In Charlotte Brock’s absence, tabled until June meeting.

Review of Contract Language

The contract states that if an employee works second shift and is called for jury duty, the employee is to be moved to first shift. Example given was that if an employee works 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. and is to report for jury duty at 9:00 a.m. the next day, should their first shift duty begin the day before they report for jury duty, so they have ample time to rest. Nick will speak to Bill McKinley regarding an incident that occurred in Bill’s department. Tabled until June meeting.

Tammie Sheeley reported on several incidences in Dining Services whereby an employee lost earned overtime.

1st incident) Employee left work ten minutes early as daughter was in the hospital. This was an unforeseen circumstance. She was asked to subtract ten minutes from her time sheet, which resulted in her losing overtime she had earned earlier in the week.

2nd incident) Employee was sent home because she was ill. She wanted to stay at work, but because she worked in Food Service, Management felt justified in sending her home, thus she lost overtime which she had earned earlier in the week.

Nick and Susie will meet initially to discuss these incidences before discussing with Dining Services Management.
