Minutes

The June 14, 2000 minutes were read. A motion was made by Dean Shoars and seconded by Cynthia Coulter to approve the minutes as written. Motion carried.

Workers’ Compensation

A handout was distributed (see attachment) and an overview of workers’ compensation procedures was presented by Regina Smith. Discussion followed and questions were answered. Instructions regarding this program and forms to apply for workers’ compensation are available on the Human Resources website at www.uni.edu/hrs

To clarify how going off payroll will effect accruals and merit step increases, the benefits election form will be revised in print and on the web.

Catastrophic Leave when on Workers’ Compensation

Jan Flick presented an overview of the catastrophic leave program. If an employee is currently receiving workers’ compensation, they are not eligible for catastrophic leave. To receive catastrophic leave, an individual must be certified by a physician to be off 30 or more work days. When an employee is eligible and is in need of voluntary catastrophic illness contributions, the employee or the employees’ department must make the request. Instructions regarding this program and forms to apply for catastrophic leave are available on the Human Resources website at www.uni.edu/hrs

Representatives from the Controller’s office will be invited to the next Labor/Management meeting to explain the overpayment issue regarding workers’ compensation, updates regarding the new payroll system and bi-weekly pay.

Union representative on university committees

There was discussion concerning the UNI Governance Committee (now Campus Voices). Representatives from AFSCME are not being notified of meeting dates and wish to include an ex-officio member of their group in Campus Voices meetings. Nick Bambach will follow up with the Campus Voices committee to advise that AFSCME representatives would like to be notified of future meetings.

Comp time payout when employees transfer between departments

There was discussion on the issue of the possibility of some portion of compensatory time being carried over to a new department after an employee transfer. In the past the only option has been payout of compensatory time after transfer, which is not always a satisfactory solution to employees who transfer with comp balances. Nick Bambach will follow up with a meeting of department heads who regularly encounter this issue. There will be a report of findings at the next Labor/Management meeting.
