  • Drug and Alcohol Policy

It is the policy of the University of Northern Iowa and the Board of Regents to provide for a drug free workplace and learning environment for students and employees. The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession or use of a controlled substance by students and employees on property owned or leased by the University of Northern Iowa or in conjunction with a University-sponsored activity is prohibited.

The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession or use of alcohol by students and employees on property owned or leased by the University of Northern Iowa or in conjunction with a University-sponsored activity is prohibited.

Violations of this policy will result in University disciplinary action.

  • Human Rights Policy

The University of Northern Iowa is committed to the principles of according full rights to and fostering respect for all members of the university community. The University is further committed to the principles and implementation of a program of nondiscrimination and affirmative action.   • Sexual Harassment

It is the policy of the University to provide a campus environment for students, faculty, and staff that is free from sexual harassment; to provide appropriate institutional appeal processes to ensure thorough and prompt investigation of allegations of sexual harassment; and to apply appropriate disciplinary sanctions to those who engage in sexual harassment.

The University of Northern Iowa is committed to maintaining a humane atmosphere in which individuals treat each other with respect. The University will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment and will not condone any actions or words that constitute sexual harassment in any situation under the jurisdiction of, sponsored by, or associated with the University, including academic, employment, residential, or social situations.

  • *Smoking Prohibited on Campus*

Effective July 1, 2008 the Iowa Smokefree Air Act prohibits smoking anywhere on the entire UNI campus, including University owned or leased vehicles and vehicles parked in University parking lots. The new law imposes penalties for noncompliance on both the smoker and the institution in the event of a violation. For more information, please view UNI's 8.10 Smoking Policy and Procedures.

 


  • Conflict of Interest

It is the policy of the State Board of Regents that no employee of a Regent institution, employee of the Regent Board Office or member of the Board, shall sell, either directly or indirectly, any goods or services to any Regent institution or the Board Office, except under certain conditions.   • Gifts

A public official, public employee, or member of their immediate family (defined as spouse or dependent or minor children) is prohibited from soliciting, accepting or receiving gifts from a "restricted donor" (as defined by law).

Similarly, employees may not offer or give gifts to state officials, legislators, public employees, candidates, etc. A person may not join with others to offer or make such a gift.

Food, drink, or other non-monetary items may only be accepted or given as "gifts" if their value is three dollars or less.

Any employee who does not comply with this section of the law would be guilty of a serious misdemeanor and may be subject to job-related discipline.
