Temporary Employment

All temporary employees hired for non-faculty duties are coordinated through Human Resource Services.

P&S Temporary Employment

Temporary P&S employees are designated when the services of a P&S staff member are temporarily required for an uncertain period of time to complete a particular project or to carry out certain duties and responsibilities.  Such service may be rendered with a full or part-time schedule for an appointment period of time which shall not extend beyond two consecutive fiscal years.  P&S temporary employees generally have obtained the minimum of a bachelor's degree and should not be an undergraduate student.  For Fiscal year 2009, P&S employees must be paid at a rate of at least $11.60 per hour.

HR will need the following information prior to a P&S temporary assignment being offered:

Temporary Merit employees are generally paid at the entry-level wage for the classification of work being performed within the Merit classifications. Students should not generally be hired for temporary Merit positions. A Merit employee serving in a non-temporary position may also hold a temporary appointment.

Information Required for Temporary Employees
All Temporary Faculty, P&S and Merit Employees

As soon as an offer of employment is extended and accepted, the individual should be directed to the HR office to complete a U.S. Department of Justice Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9) Form and other paperwork. This should be done prior to the employee beginning work, whenever possible, but absolutely no later than the third day of work.  Please inform new employees that they must bring in certain documents that establish identity and employment eligibility, which will be copied and attached to their I-9 form.  If you have questions, please contact Human Resources at 3-2422.
