Descriptions of Professional Development Options

Professional development opportunities are offered through Human Resource Services. These offerings are intended to enhance an employee's existing abilities, increase job satisfaction, and provide support for career development. Training and development opportunities are available to departments and employees through general programming, consulting, customized training, and retreats. Similar to the University's commitment to creating a supportive learning environment for the students, Training & Development extends that commitment to staff learning and development. University staff development programs are designed to increase the effectiveness of personnel through activities, which contribute both to individual development and to overall organizational performance. These include University sponsored programs, in addition to external training opportunities. There are also specific programs that departments may offer to their employees through Training & Development’s assistance.

  • General Programming – published training offerings supported by Human Resource Services.

  • Consulting – individual consultation to discuss personal career development plan or to provide supervisory guidance.

  • Customized - design and develop learning solutions focused on issues specific to department's needs. Assist with implementation or delivery of training that will address actual issues and identify solutions.

  • Retreats – an invitation to speak to an organized group of employees to provide information.
