Q1 Who is eligible to attend training sessions?
  Any UNI employee is eligible to attend any training session offered by the HRS Training Department. Please note some session topics are geared towards supervisors and their responsibilities. For availability purposes we do ask that you register to attend session and approve your attendance time with your supervisor.

Q2 How do I register to attend a training session?
  Please send an email to HRS-Training@uni.edu and include your name, department name, and the session you wish to attend.

Q3 Does it cost to attend training sessions?
  No. Training sessions offered by HRS Training and Development are held to increase employees’ knowledge of the topic being discussed and are sponsored by UNI Human Resource Services.

Q4 What department has information regarding harassment and discrimination?
  Office of Compliance and Equity Management has full-time staff devoted to ensuring equality on-campus and in all facets of the employment process. They have policy information, along with pamphlets and training available to all employment groups. Visit their department at http://www.uni.edu/equity/

Q5 Can sessions be customized to my specific situation or need?
  Yes. Most presentations can be modified or created to fit your department's specific situation or need. Please view the Professional Development Options for Departments web page for more information.

Q6 Are employees required to use vacation time while attending UNI-HRS sponsored training events?
  No. Typically the employee’s department is able to support attendance as a professional development activity. However, depending on the needs of the department it is as the discretion of the supervisor to approve and advise the employee if time away from the department as approved, could require vacation or asked to flex their hours.

Q7 Where can information be found for upcoming training events?
  Please view the Training and Development homepage for a detailed description of the upcoming events. Training session information can also be found in UNIOnline editions, which are emailed to all employees twice a week.

Q8 Can I suggest a training topic idea?
  Suggestions are always welcome and can be sent to HRS-Training@uni.edu. If you would like to receive training for your specific department on a specific task please refer to the customization question above and the Professional Development Options for Departments web page.

Q9 Is funding available for personal development?
  Yes. If you are wishing to pursue higher education and meet eligibility requirements, Staff Tuition Reimbursement Program may be available. For specific policies information regarding the program, eligibility, and application please visit the Staff Tuition Reimbursement Program web page.

Q10 Is assistance available if I want to change my career within the University?
  Yes. UNI strongly supports professional development and values your employment. To pursue additional career options within the University you should contact the Training & Development Coordinator to arrange time for career counseling.

Q11 How do I request training off-campus?
  Any request for off-campus training during your work day or within the scope of your employment requires your supervisor authorization.

Q12 Who is responsible for covering costs of training?
  If approved your employing department is responsible for the costs associated with training sessions. Requests are evaluated on an individual basis and approvals may depend on the amount of time necessary to attend training, traveling, and/or general expenses associated with training.
