The Patrick and Irma Freeley Scholar-Athlete Award was established to assist student athletes with outstanding academic achievement and a demonstrated ability to excel in athletic competition. The endowment was established in 1992 with a gift from the estate of Patrick and Irma Freeley.
The award is available to incoming UNI freshmen who meet the established criteria, and is renewable for up to four years, provided the student athlete maintains the required level of progress toward graduation. Sports eligible for the award include women's tennis, men's and women's golf,
softball, baseball, men's and woman's track and field, women's
swimming and women's soccer.
Application Process
Application for the Freeley Scholarship is by invitation only. A coach representing one of the aforementioned sports will send a copy of the guidelines to prospective student athletes they believe will meet the scholarship standards. An application form will also be included.
An incoming freshmen intending to enroll at UNI and participate in one of the previously mentioned sports must submit an application to the respective coach who will forward it to the chair of the Freeley Scholar-Athlete Award committee. The application must be accompanied by the student athlete's most recent transcript, his/her class ranking at the time of the application, and a student-athlete statement.
The Scholarship recipients chosen by the committee will be notified of the award verbally by the head coach of the student athlete's chosen sport. The committee chair will make written confirmation after the student athlete has signed his/her letter of intent. |
