Assault

 

At approximately 3:00 a.m.on Sunday Septmeber 23, an assault was reported in the area of 27th Street and Hagemann Hall on the UNI Campus. If you have information regarding this incident please contact the UNI Police Division at (319) 273-2712. Police are taking this opportunity to remind students to exercise care by using common safety precautions and practices at all times.

Providing Alcohol to Minors

 

It has been reported to the Cedar Falls Police Department that a Price Laboratory School teacher, who is currently on administrative leave, has recently provided alcohol to minors at his off-campus home. If you have information, please contact the Cedar Falls Police Department at 319-273-8612.

Bender Hall Room Incidents

 

UNI Police have received reports of a male who entered female residents' rooms in Bender Hall during the early hours of Saturday, March 31. At this time, it doesn't appear that any assaults occurred. UNI Public Safety and Police are taking this opportunity to remind students that UNI is a safe campus; but common safety precautions and practices are always encouraged. Students are reminded to lock their doors.


The suspect is described as a white male with short dark hair wearing a hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The incident is under investigation. UNI students are reminded to report any suspicious persons and behavior immediately to UNI Police. Anyone with information should contact the UNI Department of Public Safety, 319-273-2712.

Threatening e-Mail Message

 

According to UNI Police, on Nov. 11 a UNI employee received an email message strongly implying her safety was at risk if she didn't pay the sender a sum of money. The employee alerted UNI Police and the incident is being investigated. Please alert students, faculty and staff that if they receive a similar message to save it and contact UNI Police immediately at 273-2712. Messages like this need to be saved so they can be used in an investigation. UNI contact: Dave Zarifis.

Sexual Assault

 

A sexual assault was reported to the UNI Police Division this afternoon April 9, 2011. The assault was reported to have taken place early this morning in the University Apartments Complex on the UNI Campus. The assailant was described as an African-American male. Incident Near Campus - Police Asking for Help

 

Just before noon today a female student reported being approached in the 2400 block of College Street by a man driving a truck and asking for directions. The man asked her to get in the truck to show him the way. When the student refused he became angry and drove away. The man is describe as white, heavy-set, perhaps in his 50s, unshaven,
balding, with grey hair. He was wearing a tan V-neck cardigan sweater. The vehicle was described as a newer silver or grey pickup truck, pulling a white enclosed trailer. The truck was last seen traveling north on College St.

Update of 7/4/10 Sexual Assault Report

 

The University of Northern Iowa Police Division’s investigation of a sexual assault reported on July 4, 2010 in the 300 block of G Street, on the UNI campus, was determined to be unfounded.  The alleged victim recanted her report and acknowledged the incident did not occur.  The investigation continues pending additional charges related to the incident.

Sexual Assault

 

On July 4, 2010 at about 8:10 p.m., UNI Police received a report of a sexual assault.  The assault was reported to have occurred between 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. on July 4, 2010.  The victim stated she was grabbed and pulled into a wooded area near Jennings Drive and assaulted.  The assailant is described as a white male, 6’ to 6’5”, 150 to 180 pounds, and was wearing a ski mask.

Assault

 

On July 4, 2010, UNI Police received a report of a student being assaulted while in her residence located at 2115 Merner Street in Cedar Falls. A man entered the home and assaulted the female while she was in her bedroom. The assailant is described as a black male with dreadlocks that hung down to his chin.  The victim sustained minor injuries to her face and head as a result of this incident.

Assault

 

At approximately 11 p.m., Friday, March 26, an assault was reported in the area of Campus Street and Towers Drive.  Two males reported being assaulted by another group of males.  One of the victims sustained a serious injury.  It was reported cars were stopped on Campus Street, and the car occupants may have witnessed all or part of the event.  If you have information regarding this incident please contact the UNI Police Division at (319) 273-2712.

Assault Update

 

On February 11, 2010, the victim in the reported assault case on February 10, 2010 near Maucker Union admitted to investigators the assault did not occur. The reporting party in this case has been charged with filing a false report.

Assault

 

On Wednesday evening, February 10, 2010 at 11:20 p.m., UNI Police received a report of an assault which occurred on the sidewalk northeast of Maucker Union.



The victim was approached from behind and the suspect grabbed her left arm.  The victim reportedly used pepper spray on the suspect and fled to her vehicle which was parked near the scene.  She reported the incident immediately to UNI Police who searched the area of the assault and were assisted by Cedar Falls Police and Black Hawk County Sheriff''s office.  The only description the victim could provide was the suspect was wearing a blue coat.



UNI Police want to remind all people walking on campus during the evening hours to walk with others whenever possible, alway be aware of your surroundings while walking on campus, to use lighted walkways, and if necessary, contact UNI Police for an escort.

Robbery

 

On September 24, 2009, at 10:56 PM, Cedar Falls Police were dispatched to B & B West, 3105 Hudson Road, on the report of a robbery.  During the investigation, it was found that three men had entered the store  and one of them was armed with a long gun.  The men demanded money and then fled the store on foot towards Gold Falls Villa Apartments with an undetermined amount of cash.  When officers arrived in the area of the apartments, three men exited a vehicle and ran.  Two of the men were later apprehended in the area of the apartment complex.  The investigation into the incident continues with police looking for the third suspect.

 

Arrested and charged with Robbery In The First Degree were:

 

Willie Michael Newson, (DOB 09-23-83) age 26, and resides at 311 1/2 Lafayette, Apartment 4, Waterloo.

 

Jacob Mervin Gary, (DOB 02-12-90) age 19, and resides at 126 Harrison Street, Waterloo.



Both men were transported to the Black Hawk County Jail where they are being held  on the charge.  Robbery in the First Degree is a class "B" felony, which is punishable by confinement not to exceed more than twenty-five years.

A criminal charge is an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Assault

 

On March 21, 2009 UNI Police received a report of an assault near the walkway on the south side of Bartlett Hall. The assault was said to have occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on the morning of March 18. A female student reported she was grabbed and pulled toward some nearby bushes, but got away. The assailant was described as a clean-shaven white male with brown hair.

Assault

 

On Sunday, February 1, 2009, at 1:58 a.m. University Police received an anonymous phone call of an assault near center campus. According to the reporting party, a male subject was confronted by four males and assaulted. The victim was reportedly struck in the face by the suspects but the victim did not require medical treatment for his injuries. The reporting party indicated the victim did not want to report the incident to police at this time. University Police are asking the assistance of the victim, or anyone who may have knowledge of this incident, to contact them at 273-2712.

Assault

 

A female student at the University of Northern Iowa was assaulted at approximately 11 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 9, near UNI's East Gym.

 

The student, whose name is not being released, was able to fend
off the attacker and escape. The student described her attacker as
a white male about 6 feet tall with brown hair.

 

According to David Zarifis, director of UNI Public Safety, campus patrols will be stepped up.

 

"We remind students to walk in groups at night," said Zarifis. "If students don't have someone to walk with, all they need to do is call Public Safety for an escort."

Assault

 

On January,16 2007 at 6:35 p.m., Public Safety received a report of an assault which occurred at the West door of the Curris Business Building.

 

According to the victim, she was followed from the Rod Library to Curris Business Building. Once inside the Curris Business Building, the male suspect followed her through the building to the West exit door where he proceeded to step on the back of her foot and then grabbed her from behind. The suspect then grabbed her person. After freeing herself from his grasp, the suspect fled the scene. The suspect left the scene heading South on Minnesota Street. The victim indicated another student was approaching the area when this suspect fled the scene.

 

The victim was not injured in this incident and subsequently reported this incident to UNI Police. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact UNI Police at 273-2712.

Criminal Mischief

 

UNI Police are investigating a criminal mischief incident in Sabin Hall in which a swastika was etched into the wall near room 23. A similar incident in Sabin Hall occurred on October 2, 2006. The UNI Bias Response Team also is reviewing the incident.

Burglary

 

UNI Police are investigating the theft of five LCD projectors from Sabin Hall.  The thefts occurred sometime between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., Monday, December 11. The units were removed from ceiling mounts in classrooms. 

 


The UNI Police Department is asking anyone who may have noticed unusual activity in or around Sabin Hall on Dec. 11 to please call 273-2712.  Additionally, UNI Police ask faculty and staff to keep a watch on building equipment in their respective areas during the semester break and to immediately report unusual activity or suspicious persons. Be sure to lock doors as you leave and report any doors that you find propped open.

Burglary

 

 

Cedar Falls, IA - It has been reported to UNI Police twice this semester that unlocked residence hall rooms have been entered without permission. On both occasions the intruder made unwanted advances toward the resident. This is a reminder that all residents should always practice good personal safety habits and lock their doors whether they are home or away. Residents can discuss safety issues with residence hall staff. View the fake money order

Money Order Fraud

 

Cedar Falls , IA - UNI Public Safety has been contacted about a money-order scam. A UNI student was contacted via e-mail by someone overseas who then sent via U.S. mail the student three Wal-Mart MoneyGrams. The student was asked to cash the MoneyGrams, keep some of the money and send the remainder back overseas. These MoneyGrams are fraudulent, and cashing them could potentially result in criminal charges.


Students, faculty and staff should be aware that this is a scam, and if anyone receives any MoneyGrams through the mail, please contact Public Safety at 273-2712.

Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse

 

 

Cedar Falls , Iowa - A University of Northern Iowa female student reported an assault in Shull Hall on the early morning of August 25, 2006. The victim indicated an unknown male entered her room and was touching her when she awoke. She was able to get out of the room without injury and the suspect fled before she returned to the room with others. The victim's room was not locked.
