The University
of Northern Iowa believes strongly in allowing the community members
to make informed decisions about their personal safety. One element
is providing the statistical information about crime. Crime statistics
take a variety of forms to tell the story of how crime occurs in
a community. UNI has placed statistics based on the Federal Campus
Crime Report as the basis of our statistics available to the public.
The federally mandated Campus Crime Report allows students to roughly
compare between institutions.
Each semester the campus crime statistics web site (http://www.vpaf.uni.edu/pubsaf/crime_stats/index.shtml) is listed under "Federal Disclosure Information Web Sites" section in the printed and online Schedule of Classes, published by the Registrar's Office. The online site is also included by Human Resources Services with information for potential employees. A printed copy of the report may be requested through the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, 118 Gilchrist Hall, University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, IA 50614-0010.
Uniform Crime Report
The Uniform
Crime Report is a universal reporting and classification system
administered by the US Department of Justice. UCR uses a common classification system to record incidents.
