Retroactive to July 2004, all University of Northern Iowa employees achieving at least five years of service are recognized for their service to the University. Employees receive a UNI Years of Service pin at their five year milestone and a numbered tab for each five years thereafter. Employees are presented with their tab during yearly division celebrations and events following their anniversary.
In addition, employees are presented with a certificate and a gift during their service milestone anniversary month. Consistent with the University Service pin, awards are given for every five years of service to the University beginning with their fifth anniversary. Employees celebrating their five-year anniversary receive an insulated coffee mug, and employees celebrating 10 years of service get a double-layered umbrella. Starting with the 15th year milestone, employees select from the following list of gifts*:

| 10 Years | Umbrella (compact style), 12 Can Convertible Duffle/Cooler, or Double Layered Golf Umbrella |
| 15 Years | Fleece Jacket, Sports Chair, Folding Chair, or Wind Jacket |
| 20 Years | Soft Shell Jacket, Watch (Men or Women), Leather Attache Case, or Leather Travel Bag |
| 25 Years + | Chiming Mantel Clock, Rounded Mantel Clock, Crystal Vase, Crystal Bowl, Leather Duffle Bag, or Canvas/Leather Duffle Bag |
