CatID

UNI students and employees use a CatID (username and password) to access UNI e-mail.  The combination of their username and password is called CatID.

UNI is working toward having a single sign-on for email, Oracle Calendar, MyUNIverse and MEMFIS and the CatID will be their sign-on. This single sign-on is coming soon.

See Cat ID for more...

Oracle Calendar

Oracle calendar is the campus-wide calendar for UNI faculty and staff and student employees. It can be used to manage departmental resources, such as equipment, to schedule group meetings, as well as for scheduling appointments and for time management.

How-To's

Internet Access

Connecting to UNI by the internet at www.uni.edu provides students, faculty, staff and visitors to information about the University.

Use of Computer Resources

Campus information systems have been designed to be as open as possible and, as such, the University insists on appropriate use of these systems. Because disruption of the electronic environment has widespread consequences for many members of the University community and because electronic information is easily reproduced, respect for the work and rights of others is especially important. For more see University Policy on Use of Computer Resources.

Ethernet (Wired) Connections

Ethernet connections are the most common for setup access from offices, residence halls, and other campus locations.

Wireless Connections

Access to the UNI wireless network is available. For connectivity with wireless internet capable devices (laptop computers, pdas, etc.) contact VPAF Help Desk at 273-2461.  For information about wireless connections on campus click here. Click here for UNI IT Wireless policy.

Remote Access

Remote desktop access allows employees the ability to use the programs and files that are on their office computer while working at another computer.

Protecting confidential information

All employees who have access to UNI confidential information whether at UNI or remotely must understand their responsibility to only access information that they need to do their job, and properly protect the confidentiality of the information they do access.  UNI confidential information must not be stored on any computer not owned and managed by UNI.   It is the user's responsibility to ensure that no files containing UNI confidential information remain on a non-UNI computer after any use of such a computer with UNI confidential information.

Anti-Virus Protection software and personal firewalls

All computers used to access UNI confidential data must run up to date anti-virus software and  the virus definition files must be updated regularly.  The personal firewall on the computer must also be enabled and be configured to block unneeded applications.  Anti-spyware protection software is also recommended.

Gaining remote access to UNI desktop computers

Remote access to desktop or laptop computers at UNI is prohibited unless specific permission has been granted by an employee's supervisor or IT Support group, or if the access is performed by the help desk as part of the process of assisting an employee with a problem. To have remote access activated the Remote Access Request form must be submitted by your supervisor and department director.  Once approval is obtained, VPAF Technology Systems and Services will configure your computer.
