IBM
Mainframe
Prior to acquiring access
to the information in the University administrative database(s),
you must receive authorization by completing an Online
Transactions Authorization Form and send it to Information
Technology Services - Information Systems, 19 East Bartlett Hall,
c/o DBA, 0381. Instructions for filling out the form are included
in the PDF.

E-mail
UNI provides e-mail service
to all its students and employees. The university sends official
correspondence to employees e-mail addresses with full expectation
that communications will be received and read in a timely fashion.
If employees choose to forward their mail to another e-mail address
(AOL, Hotmail, departmental server, etc.), their primary campus
e-mail address remains the official destination for official university
correspondence.
E-mail at UNI offers
spam filtering, antivirus protection, and WebMail services. Documentation
on topics such as using email, email back-up, web-based email, setting
vacations messages and other e-mail support information is displayed
here. For further information,
see the central e-mail services (
http://www.uni.edu/its/us/email) web page.
Protecting
Your Computer
It is imperative that
you protect your computers. Computer security risks and threats
continue to rise, and a vulnerable machine can be attacked and infected
in a few seconds.
It is your responsibility
to protect your computer and your data. Protecting your
computer helps protect the university's network and resources, as
well as others at UNI. A&F Technology Systems and Services will
install your computer operating systems and software and include
an antivirus software. Installing updates to your computer
will help protect it. Click here
for more...
Windows Updates
–
A&F division
computers will have updates automatically installed. Updates will
occur after 5 p.m. Employees can shutdown computers when leaving
work and computers will automatically power up when updates are
installed. Don't shutdown if you will be using Remote Access.
Mac Updates –
Your Mac should be set
to install their software updates automatically. In system Preferences
click on Software Update. Check the box and choose
Daily.
Symantec Antivirus
Virus protection is installed
on your computer and will be updated when your computer is in use.
Infected Computer
- If you believe your computer is infected, contact A&F technical
support at 3-2461.
Laptop
Security
Laptops and Tablet PCs
will receive operating system and virus protection updates when
connected to the UNI network via ethernet cable or wireless
but they must be connected. Weekly, at a minimum,
your laptop should connect to the VPAF server. Connecting to the
VPAF server requires logon with your network account username and
password. Laptops are also at greater risk of theft so take precautions
to not leave your laptop unattended.
Leaving
UNI
Employees who are planning
to leave UNI permanently should review the document
