What is Ad-Aware?

Ad-aware is a detection and removal utility that will comprehensively scan your memory, registry, hard, removable and optical drives for known Datamining, aggressive advertising, Parasites, Scumware, Keyloggers, selected traditional Trojans, Dialers, Malware, Browser hijackers, and tracking components.

When to use Ad-Aware?

Running Ad-aware on a regular basis helps keep your computer clean of spyware. Spyware is software that can hinder your computer system because it uses up your systems resources and slows down activity on the Internet. Ad-aware should be run anytime you notice that your computer is sluggish. The program will detect and remove most known spyware programs, which will improve the speed up your computer.

Ad-Aware 6.0 At-a-Glance

Step 1. Double click on the Ad-aware icon on your desktop to start the program. The status screen opens. Click start to begin the Ad-aware system scan.

Step 2. The next screen shows the set-up for the system scan. Leave the default selection of “Perform smart system scan” and click next.

Step 3. Ad-aware begins scanning your system for spyware. The scan will take a few minutes. You can quit the scan at any time by clicking the abort button.

Step 4. Once the scan is finished, the scan complete window opens. It shows the number of objects found by Ad-aware. Click next to review the found objects. (If no objects were found on your computer, click finish. You are done.)

Step 5. The objects found by Ad-aware are displayed in the scanning results list. The box should be checked next to each object that you want to delete. To select all objects, right click on any object then select "all objects".  Click next to continue.

Step 6. The warning screen verifies that you want to delete the objects. Click OK. (A copy of all objects is automatically saved and quarantined by Ad-aware.)

Step 7. Finally, the status screen appears again. The information on the screen is updated to include the latest scan.
