Director of Athletics Search

 

Five finalists for the position of director of athletics at the University of Northern Iowa will make campus visits and give public presentations beginning the first full week of May. Each candidate will participate in a two-day interview process, including an open forum for the public. Click here for a Candidate Evaluation Form. See the candidates schedule below.

 

Barbara Walker
Campus Visit: May 5 & 6
Open Forum: May 6, 1:30 p.m., 109 Curris Business Building

Barbara Walker has been at Wake Forest University since 1999, where she is presently the Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator. She is in charge of 15 sports as well as the Departments of Academic Support, Compliance, Media Relations, Strength Training, and Sports Medicine. Prior to coming to Wake Forest, she was an Associate Athletic Director at the University of Texas at Austin. She has her BS and MS from Central Missouri State University.

     
Glen Krupica
Campus Visit: May 8 & 9

Glen Krupica is the Deputy Director of Athletics – External Affairs at Northern Illinois University, having been there since 2005. He previously served for 11 years as Executive Director of the Independence Bowl Foundation in Shreveport, LA. In this position, he negotiated contracts with ESPN and the Southeast and Big 12 conferences. He has his BS from Northern Illinois University and MA from Ohio State University.

     
Terry Wanless
Campus Visit: May 12 & 13

Terry Wanless has been the Athletic Director at Sacramento State since 2002; Sacramento State won eight conference championships last year. During his time at Sacramento State, the university has hosted at least six NCAA championships. He was Athletic Director at the University of North Dakota from 1990-1999. His education includes a BS from Black Hills State University, an MS from Northern Illinois University, and an EdD from Temple University.

     
Mike Waddell
Campus Visit: May 15 & 16

Michael Waddell has been Senior Associate Director of Athletics at the University of Cincinnati since 2006 after more than 5 years at the University of Akron, including a short stint as interim director of athletics there. His primary focus has been on external development, but he has also been involved in sports oversight, student-athlete welfare, and strategic planning. He has a BS from Guilford College and will earn his MA from Ohio University this fall.
     
Troy Dannen
Campus Visit: May 19 & 20
Open Forum: May 20, 1:30 p.m., 109 Curris Business Building
Troy Dannen has been the Executive Director of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union since 2002; he has been employed by the IGHSAU since 1989. His organization oversees athletics in 392 schools in eleven sports across the state of Iowa, involving 70,000 participants. He has experience with fund-raising, budget management, media negotiations, and increasing spectator attendance at the IGHSAU events. He earned his BA from UNI.
